Four people were injured and taken to hospitals Wednesday after a small plane landed on a South Texas street and crashed into three cars, authorities said.
Three people had non-life-threatening injuries after the crash around 3pm in Victoria, and the fourth was taken to another facility for a higher level of care, police said.
The pilot was being evaluated, Victoria Police said at a news conference Wednesday afternoon.
The small plane landed on Mockingbird Lane and a feeder road to Zac Lentz Parkway, also known as State Highway Loop 463, in Victoria, a South Texas city about 85 miles north of Corpus Christi.
“We’re glad it wasn’t worse than it is. This is not something we see every day,” deputy police chief Eline Moya told reporters. “But we are happy that everything seems to be fine and that they are being monitored.”
The plane was a twin-engine Piper PA-31, the Federal Aviation Administration said. Only the pilot was on board, the report said.
Images from the scene showed the plane broken in half near a highway overpass.
A video shared on social media showed the twin-engine plane flying very low before landing on the street. Planes in distress sometimes land on streets and highways.
The FAA said it is investigating.
