Fourth of July thunderstorms leave hundreds without power in Lubbock, West Texas

A series of severe thunderstorms swept through West Texas on Thursday evening, disrupting plans for the Fourth of July and leaving hundreds of people without power.

The National Weather Service in Lubbock issued a severe thunderstorm warning early Thursday evening, but later downgraded it to a flood warning.

As of 8 p.m. Thursday, the LP&L outage map reported 19 active outages in Lubbock, affecting 592 customers.

Xcel Energy Outage Map reported seven active outages near Denver City, affecting 107 customers. Xcel also reported outages in Levelland and Lockney, which affected only a handful of customers.
