Fox News is begging Trump to give up on Matt Gaetz already

Obviously Fox News does not at all support Donald Trump’s choice of Matt Gaetz as attorney general.

A segment of the show addressed the question Tuesday morning of why the former Florida representative would be a disaster to lead the Justice Department.

Fox News host Trey Gowdy, a former Republican representative, urged the president-elect to reconsider his relationship to the “legal profession” and the Justice Department.

“Don’t use the legal system as a weapon. The message for Republicans is: Don’t do the same to the other side, with this absurd AG choice you just made,” Gowdy said, referring to Gaetz. “Justice is different. It is a combination of policy, law and also morality. You are not using our legal system as a political weapon. Voters rejected it in November and will reject it if Republicans try. Some things rise above the noise. The legal system is one of them.”

Gaetz has been a major thorn in the side of his more traditional Republican colleagues since his boycott of Chairman Kevin McCarthy last year. More importantly, he has huge, troubling problems accusations of paying for sex with an underage girl hanging above his head. The House Ethics Committee is still deliberating whether to release the contents of their investigation into these allegations, and the outcome could potentially be devastating for Gaetz.

This isn’t the first time Trump’s actions have left his own media base baffled. Former Fox & Friends co-host Gretchen Carlson also criticized Trump’s selection of Pete Hegseth, write on X“From crazy dinner interviews on Weekend Fox and Friends to Secretary of Defense? I never thought I’d say I’d be baffled by any post-election choice, but nominating Pete Hegseth for this incredibly important role? Yes, he is a veteran…and?”

These controversial choices promise to lead to even more controversial hearings in the cabinet. All we can do is wait and see.
