The world’s No. 1 player certainly looked good in Paris. World No. 1 Iga Swiatek extended her winning streak to 20 matches at the French Open with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Coco Gauff in the semifinals on Thursday. Swiatek will face Jasmine Paolini, who defeated Mirra Andreeva in straight sets in their semi-final, becoming the first Italian woman to reach a Grand Slam final in almost nine years.
Swiatek, the two-time defending French Open singles champion, has lost just one set en route to the final and is looking to become just the third woman in the Open Era (Monica Seles 1990-92, Justine Henin 2005-07) three years later row to win the French Open. If she can win Saturday’s final, she will join Henin (4), Steffi Graf (6) and Chris Evert (7) as the only women to have won the singles title at Roland Garros four times. And at 23 years old, she would be the youngest to achieve that goal.
