Frigid weekend with continued slippery travel on Saturday

TGIF and have a nice almost weekend! We have some treacherous travel to get through this evening and into the night as light snow continues to ravage many communities. A clipper system to the south is starting to join a coastal low and we are on the northern edge of it all. Temperatures will drop to the low 20s tonight through early Saturday morning. Wind chills will likely be in the single digits to mid-teens as strong northwest winds develop this weekend.

High temperatures will peak in the teens Saturday and Sunday, but it’s the wind chill values that will mean the most this weekend. Northwest winds will gust up to 30 mph Saturday afternoon, which will absolutely destroy our wind chills. It will feel like single digits above and below zero at times through Saturday afternoon, with persistent mountain snow and valley flurries.

It will get even colder overnight through Sunday morning as the snow ends and the wind begins to diminish. The wind chill upon waking up on Sunday morning will be brutal, with many feeling in their teens to mid-20s below zero. Winds will continue to decrease throughout Sunday, with wind chill temperatures improving into the single digits above and below zero by the afternoon. A brief high pressure system moves in Sunday night into Monday morning bringing more sunshine to start the holiday week.
