Actors Daisy Ridley and Tom Bateman met while filming ‘Murder on the Orient Express’

Like many linked actors, Daisy Ridley and Tom Bateman were costars first.

The pair met while working on Kenneth Branagh’s 2017 hit whodunnit Murder on the Orient Express, and they started dating shortly after. After dodging engagement rumors for years, Ridley confirmed the two tied the knot in an interview in 2023 Rolling stone.

Ridley, who rose to fame for her portrayal of Rey in the film Star Wars sequel trilogy, does not shy away from publicly praising her husband’s talent. Ridley and Bateman were rumored to have been engaged for years

Although Ridley and Bateman never confirmed when they got engaged, rumors of a proposal first emerged in 2019.

The actress was repeatedly spotted wearing a diamond ring on her ring finger that year and the following year. Meanwhile, Bateman was at the center of engagement rumors in 2020 when he was spotted wearing a gold band on his ring finger while out and about with friend and costar Olivia Cooke.

They shared the news of their wedding in 2023

During promotion for her film Sometimes I think about dying, Ridley confirmed that she and Bateman got married. Speak with Rolling stone in January 2023, the actress simply shared, “Yes! I’m married,” when asked about her ring.

A few months later, in April, Ridley and Bateman holidayed together in Ireland at Castlewood House Dingle. The hotel’s owners shared a group photo with the couple on Instagram and wrote: “What a lovely couple!! I am absolutely delighted that the incredibly talented duo of actors Daisy Ridley and Tom Bateman will be staying with us.”

Ridley and Bateman keep their relationship private

Like many A-list couples, Ridley and Bateman prefer to keep their relationship out of the spotlight. Over the years, the two have remained tight-lipped about the details of their life together, and according to Ridley, that’s to protect what they have.

Ridley and Bateman enjoy working together

Considering that Ridley and Bateman met while working, it’s no surprise that the couple decided to collaborate on another project together. Their 2024 film, Magpie, is a noir thriller written by Bateman and based on Ridley’s original idea. The film premiered at the SXSW festival in March 2024, starring Ridley.

On the red carpet of the premiere, Bateman talked about his wife’s acting talent CBR that Ridley is one of his “favorite actors.”

“It was so rewarding to be able to write to what I know are her strengths,” he said. “I could be very daring and bold and write an entire scene with no dialogue and just her character’s thoughts. Sam [Yates] our director, he agreed. He said, ‘Man, you can just stick a camera on Daisy and she’ll do it and she can hold that.’ ”

“It was super, super rewarding,” he added.
