From an iconic jingle to creamy eggnog, here are some Oklahoma Christmas traditions

Every family has its own traditions during Christmas, from the handmade decorations on the tree to special recipes on the table.

But there are some Christmas traditions that are synonymous with Oklahoma, or that many Oklahomans do year after year.

Here are just a few we thought of.

Singing BC Clark’s anniversary jingle

First written and debuting to the public in 1956, BC Clark’s Anniversary Sale jingle has been broadcast every year since to promote the Anniversary Sale leading up to Christmas.

Except for one year, in 1961, when the company produced a new jingle, assuming the original was outdated. “It was replaced with the old familiar within hours, after a barrage of complaints,” according to BC Clark’s website.

The jingle has “taken on a life of its own,” the company said, and for many Oklahomans the Christmas season isn’t complete without it.

Sipping Braum’s Egg Nog

Braum’s Ice Cream and Dairy Stores are mostly located in Oklahoma, but the chain also has locations in Texas, Kansas, Missouri and Arkansas.

Many Oklahomans are eagerly awaiting the day when Braum’s Premium Egg will be back in stores before the holidays.

This creamy drink, made with Braum whole milk, cream, egg yolks and spices, is the perfect drink to enjoy on cozy winter evenings or on Christmas morning while the family opens presents.

Attending the Nutcracker Ballet

Hans the Nutcracker Prince (principal dancer Alejandro González) and Marie (corps de ballet dancer Erina Tanaka), center, perform with the Flower Corps in Act II of Oklahoma City Ballet’s new production of “The Nutcracker.”

Although not unique to Oklahoma, many Oklahoma families make it an annual tradition to attend a performance of The Nutcracker, which is put on by both the Oklahoma City and Tulsa ballet companies.

There is something about putting on your best clothes and immersing yourself in the magical story, sets and costumes.
