WORCESTER — The funeral for Massachusetts State Police rookie Enrique Delgado-Garcia will be held next weekend.

According to his obituary, a wake will be held Friday evening from 4 to 8 p.m. at Mercadante Funeral Home in Worcester. The funeral service will be held there Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Delgado-Garcia will be buried in Hope Cemetery in Worcester.
He dead on Friday, September 13, the day after he was seriously injured during boxing training at the Massachusetts State Police Academy in New Braintree, according to sources told by the WBZ-TV I-Team. Delgado-Garcia was only 25 years old.
The I-Team has learned that he was sworn in as an officer in his final hours and will receive full state police honors.

Worcester County District Attorney Joe Early Jr. promised a outside research because Delgado-Garcia worked for more than a year as a victim-witness advocate in his office. No independent agency has been named that will handle the case.
“Enrique was an exceptional young man who dedicated himself to the service of others. He always dreamed of becoming a State Trooper and being someone great who made a difference in the lives of people in his community,” his obituary read.
“Enrique was known for his kind heart, generosity and dedication. He had a strong desire to help anyone he could. He had the biggest heart and would never give up. Enrique was a dedicated friend who was known as a champion and a winner, and that is how he will always be remembered.”
The ACLU wants federal investigators to investigate the cause of Delgado-Garcia’s death and the circumstances surrounding it.
The Massachusetts State Police told the I-Team that no one has been transferred or terminated from the academy at this point in the investigation.
