CHICAGO (CBS) — The funeral service will take place Friday morning Clay Carns, an Illinois State Police trooperwho was hit and killed by a truck just two days before Christmas.
CBS News Chicago will live stream the procession from Parkview Christian Church in Orland Park to his final resting place in Alsip.

Carns, 35, who had been with the department for 11 years, was killed Dec. 23 while clearing debris from the roadway on I-55 near Channahon when he was struck and killed by a pickup truck. The driver was charged with a Scott’s Law violation for failing to drive and causing his death.
The crash also occurred on Scott’s Law Day – a day to remind people of the importance of yielding to law enforcement and first responders.
During a visit on Thursdaythe trooper’s friends, family and public showed up to honor Carns and show their support for the first responders.
Illinois State Police Director Brendan Kelly attended the visit and said the death was “completely preventable.”
“Every one of his fellow officers talks about what a great teammate he was. What an honest person he was. How reliable he was. And when you’re dealing with very dangerous situations all the time in this industry, that kind of trust is critical,” Kelly said.
The state police encourage anyone who wants to show support to stand along the procession route after the funeral.
