A Los Angeles Fire Department firefighter was injured while battling a raging fire in downtown Los Angeles Friday morning that spread to five other buildings before it could be extinguished.

The fire started at a storage unit at 683 S. Kohler St., near Seventh Street, and burned for more than three hours before spreading to several other buildings on that block.

Firefighters arrived on scene around 2:07 a.m. and began battling the flames using both defensive and offensive tactics, LAFD spokesman Nicholas Prange said. The fire spread to a cluster of buildings at 747 S. Kohler St.

One firefighter was injured and taken to hospital with minor injuries.

About 170 firefighters were deployed to extinguish the fire.
