Britain’s Caden Cunningham and Rebecca McGowan both reached the quarter-finals of taekwondo on their Olympic debuts.
Cunningham, hailed as the future of the sport by two-time British bronze medallist Bianca Walkden, defeated Nigeria’s Abdoul Issoufou 2-0 in the men’s +80kg category in Paris.
McGowan then quickly defeated Fiji’s Venice Traill 2-0 in the women’s +67kg class.
Cunningham takes on Cuba’s Rafael Alba from 13:40 BST, with McGowan taking on Uzbekistan’s Svetlana Osipova at 14:45 BST.
Britain has won a taekwondo medal at every Olympic Games since 2004 in Athens, but struggled in Paris.
Favourite Bradly Sinden was forced to withdraw from his bronze medal match in the men’s -68kg event due to injury, while two-time gold medallist Jade Jones suffered another early loss in the women’s -57kg event.
