Genesis is teasing automotive enthusiasts with its latest concept car, the X Gran Racer Vision Gran Turismo Concept, unveiled at the 2024 Busan Motor Show in South Korea. This new model marks the fourth vehicle that Hyundai’s luxury brand has developed specifically for the Gran Turismo racing game, further cementing Genesis’ commitment to combining high-performance engineering with digital innovation.
The X Gran Racer VGT Concept is an evolution of last year’s Genesis X Gran Berlinetta Concept, featuring an even more aggressive design and a host of performance enhancements. Featuring a formidable carbon fiber rear spoiler, fender vents and a center rear fin, the car’s exterior exudes a racing pedigree. The concept also features a mono-wiper that slices through the windshield, contributing to its aerodynamic efficiency and unique aesthetic appeal.
Under the hood, Genesis has significantly upgraded the hybrid powertrain. The car features a front-mounted V6 engine with an electric supercharger, producing an astonishing 870 horsepower and 790 pound-feet of torque all the way up to 10,000 rpm. Complementing this is a front-mounted electric motor that generates 670 horsepower and 225 lb-ft of torque. Together, they produce a combined 1,540 horsepower and 1,051 lb-ft of torque, making this concept a powerhouse on both virtual and physical tracks.
The design of the X Gran Racer VGT Concept isn’t just about raw power. It incorporates advanced aerodynamic features such as a larger front splitter, rear diffuser and side skirts, all of which contribute to stability and performance at high speed. The extended dash-to-axle ratio positions the driver and powertrain rearwards, optimising weight distribution and enhancing the car’s mid-engine layout.
Inside, Genesis has transformed the cabin into a one-man cockpit with a carbon fiber bucket seat, fully integrated roll cage and racing yoke. The minimalist interior design, in line with Genesis’ “Beauty of White Space” philosophy, prioritizes essential functions and enhances the driving experience. The Digital Panorama Interface integrates essential vehicle information into a panoramic display, helping the driver stay focused and informed.
The X Gran Racer VGT Concept also showcases Genesis’ innovative use of materials. Carbon fiber accents throughout the cabin not only enhance the car’s aesthetics, but also contribute to overall weight reduction and agility. Quilted padding in key areas provides exceptional comfort and support during intense racing maneuvers, keeping the driver protected and focused.
This concept is part of the Genesis Magma program, which emphasizes the brand’s move towards luxury high-performance mobility. The striking Magma color scheme complements the car’s carbon fiber elements, adding a touch of exclusivity and refinement. The real carbon fiber rear spoiler and vertical taillights integrated into the spoiler improve downforce and visibility, even in extreme racing conditions.
