George Conway denounces Trump’s ‘moral depravity’ and praises Smith’s move to silence him in documents case

Conservative attorney George Conway weighed in on former President Trump’s recent false claims that the FBI was prepared to kill him when they searched Mar-a-Lago for classified documents in 2022, criticizing Trump for his “moral turpitude.”

Speaking to CNN’s Kaitlan Collins about Trump’s controversial fundraising email, Conway said the accusation against a government agency was “absolutely obscene.”

“The idea that so many people had to participate to send this email and … be beholden to Trump [and] doing these things just shows you the level of righteous moral depravity that … Trump exuded and that surrounds him,” he said Friday. “Words cannot describe that level of…depravity to…deliver this message.”

In his Wednesday email, Trump claimed that President Biden was “locked and loaded and ready to get me out” — twisting disclosure language from documents prepared as law enforcement prepared to raid his Palm Beach, Florida, home search.

In reality, the FBI’s language only allows deadly force “when necessary,” such as when someone poses an “imminent danger of death” to an officer or someone else.

The FBI said it followed standard protocol in the search, as with all others. The agency confirmed that the same policy used in Trump’s Mar-a-Lago investigation was also applied when they searched Biden’s office and home in Delaware, as it is “standard practice for all FBI operations orders.”

According to prosecutors, the search was also deliberately conducted when Trump and his family were not home.

Following his claims, Special Prosecutor Jack Smith called on Judge Aileen Cannon, who is overseeing the case, to prevent Trump from speaking about the case in a way that could endanger law enforcement officials.

As Conway held up his cell phone showing Trump’s email, he echoed Smith’s calls for a gag order.

“He’s basically accusing the government of trying to eliminate him,” he said Friday. “And you know, 10 million people get this email, I don’t know how many people get this email, all it takes is one or two of them to shoot someone and think, ‘Hey, I think that the government is trying to shoot.” my president, I’m going to fight back’ and… it’s absolutely terrible.”

Conway praised Smith’s filing and argued that it finally put Cannon on the spot.

The judge appointed by Trump postponed the trial indefinitely earlier this month, pushing back some hearing dates in late July and declining to set a date for the trial. Cannon said she had to resolve some issues before the trial, but the decision was widely seen as a favor to the Trump team’s requests to extend the case after the election.

‘Do you think she would do anything? I don’t know,” Conway added Friday. “But she… better, because this is just… completely outrageous,” Conway said. “I mean, it’s really an attempt to incite violence against government agents based on a completely pathological lie and misreading.”

The former president is facing 40 charges for mishandling classified documents and obstructing the government’s retrieval of them after he left the White House. He has denied being guilty of the charges.
