What to watch
📺 Georgie and Mandy’s first marriage warms our hearts

📺Elsbeth returns to the stage

When: Season 2 of Elsbeth premieres on October 17 and airs Thursdays at 10pm ET on CBS. Episodes stream the next day on Paramount+.

What you need to know: Carrie Preston stars as Elsbeth Tascioni in the much happier film The good woman spin-off as a quirky lawyer who works with the NYPD. In the second season, Elsbeth settles into a routine with a long list of guest stars, including Rob Riggle and Vanessa Williams. [TVLine]

Why I’m going to watch: If you enjoy watching unconventional investigators solve crimes, there are plenty of programs to match, like Psych, monk and even Sherlock. But I love Elsbeth because it is the most optimistic and colorful of the bunch. [People]
🎥 Anora unravels a dark fairy tale

When: Anora is in cinemas from October 18.

What you need to know: Mikey Madison plays a sex worker from Brooklyn, New York, who falls in love with the son of a Russian billionaire, but his family disputes their marriage. The film is already an awards season highlight. [Variety]

Why I recommend it: “Where are the adult movies for adults that had human stories, that didn’t have to have explosions or didn’t have to have superheroes?” said director Sean Baker in an interview. Anora is the answer. [Deadline]

📚 Daniel M. Lavery checks us in at the Women’s hotel

What you need to know: Set in the 1960s, this debut novel follows the residents of a women’s hotel in New York City. The characters, including a writer, a bartender and an activist, represent a spectrum of glamor and hopelessness.

Why I’m going to read: I read everything Daniel M. Lavery puts out, from his memoirs to his advice columns. I’m excited to see him tackle fictional drama.

🎧Kylie Minogue breaks the tension

When: Kylie Minogue’s Tension II comes out on October 18th.

What you need to know: The Australian pop princess scored an unexpected world hit in 2023 with ‘Padam Padam’, and with this new release she was able to replicate that success. Artists such as Orville Peck and Tove Lo are featured. [Billboard]

Why I’m going to listen: Minogue is about to tour North America for the first time in a decade, and I need to study her new material. [People]
