The rising cost of living and the arrival of migrants to Germany are the two biggest concerns weighing on the minds of German citizens, according to a new long-term study published on Wednesday.
Rising prices are the biggest German fear: 57% of respondents say they are worried about further increases in the cost of living.
It was also the most frequently mentioned concern in the 33 surveys conducted as part of the study.
“A look at our long-term statistics shows that Germans are sensitive when it comes to their own wallets,” says research head Grischa Brower-Rabinowitsc.
About 52% of respondents said they were concerned that rent would become too expensive, a concern that ranked third in the survey.
However, financial sentiment has improved compared to 2023, with concerns about rising costs of living and rent both falling by eight percentage points.
Meanwhile, the issue of migration also continues to concern people in Germany, coming second on the list of concerns.
More than half of respondents, or 56%, are concerned that society and authorities are not prepared to deal with the number of refugees entering the country.
This year’s survey surveyed approximately 2,400 respondents aged 14 and over between July and August.
