Germany’s Saarstahl ships tracks from France to Ukrainian railways

The German company Saarstahl supplies 20,000 tons of rail to Ukraine from two French factories.

Deliveries from the Hayange plant in Lorraine and the Ascoval plant in northern France have now begun and should allow the reconstruction of 150 kilometers of war-damaged lines, the French Economy Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

France makes the production of the songs possible with a loan of 37.6 million euros.

Ukraine has been fending off a full-scale Russian invasion for almost three years. The damage to the railway network is significant and the Ukrainian steel factory previously responsible for track production has also been destroyed.

The reconstruction of Ukraine’s railway network, which is the third largest in Europe after Germany and France, is seen as crucial for the country’s defense capacity and economy.

The delivery of the tracks marks the beginning of a greater partnership between France, Europe and Ukraine in the rail sector.

Other infrastructure such as train stations and bridges have been destroyed and require major investments, according to the French ministry.
