California Democrats are expected to maintain their supermajority status in the Legislature as election results continue to come in Wednesday.
While neither the Senate nor the State Assembly are expected to change hands, a number of races remain important.
Here’s a breakdown of where things stand with the races we’re watching:
State Assembly District 1
Republican Heather Hadwick leads her opponent, Republican Tenessa Audette, 62.8%-37.2%.
This race is intended to fill the seat vacated by Assemblywoman Megan Dahle, R-Bieber, who is running for a Senate seat.
State Assembly District 3
Republican Assemblyman James Gallagher leads his opponent, Democrat Aaron Draper, 64.9%-35.1%. The Associated Press has called the race for Gallagher.
State Assembly District 4
Democratic Assemblywoman Cecilia Aguiar-Curry leads her opponent, Republican Darren T. Ellis, 66.1%-33.9%.
State Assembly District 5
Republican Assemblyman Joe Patterson leads his opponent, Democrat Neva Parker, 61.8%-38.2%. The Associated Press has called the race for Patterson.
State Assembly District 6
Democrat Maggy Krell leads her opponent, Republican Nikki Ellis, 64.9%-35.1%.
This race is intended to fill the seat vacated by Councilman Kevin McCarty, who was term-limited and is running for mayor of Sacramento.
State Assembly District 7
In one of the most closely watched legislative races in the state, Republican Assemblyman Josh Hoover is leading opponent Porsche Middleton, a Democrat, 53.7%-46.3%.
Hoover is a freshman lawmaker seeking a second term.
State Assembly District 9
Republican Assemblyman Heath Flora appears poised for re-election as he leads candidate Tami Nobriga of the American Independent Party of California, 70.4%-29.6%. The Associated Press has called the race for Flora.
State Assembly District 10
Democratic Assemblywoman Stephanie Nguyen leads her opponent, Republican Vinaya Singh, 65.4%-34.6%.
State Assembly District 11
Democratic Assemblywoman Lori Wilson leads her opponent, Republican Dave Ennis, 57.8%-42.2%.
Senate District 1
Republican Megan Dahle currently leads opponent David Fennell, also a Republican, 74.9%-25.1%. The Associated Press has called the race for Dahle.
This race is designed to fill the seat vacated by Senator Brian Dahle, who is term-limited from the Legislature.
Senate District 3
Democrat Christopher Cabaldon currently leads his opponent, Republican Thom Bogue, 61%-39%.
This race is intended to fill the seat vacated by Senator Bill Dodd, who is term-limited from the Legislature.
Senate District 5
Democrat Jerry McNerney currently leads his opponent, Republican Jim Shoemaker, 50.2%-49.8%.
This race is intended to fill the seat vacated by Senator Susan Talamantes Eggman, who is term-limited outside the Legislature.
