Giants grounds crew’s blunder ages perfectly after sweep of Rockies originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area
The Giants’ weekend series with the Colorado Rockies started with a hilarious blunder from the Oracle Park grounds crew, but was this perhaps a foreshadowing of what was to come?
In the top of the first inning of San Francisco’s 10-5 victory over Colorado on Friday, play was stopped when Giants right fielder Mike Yastrzemski grabbed a set of brooms that the grounds crew had left on the warning track in Triple’s Alley.

While San Francisco trailed early Friday after allowing three runs in the top of the first inning, the Giants’ offense came back to life and posted an emphatic comeback victory. They followed that up with a 14-4 win on Saturday thanks to an epic six-RBI performance from Luis Matos.
San Francisco completed its series sweep of Colorado with a 4-1 victory on Sunday, greatly aging the ground crew’s blunder on Friday.
In baseball tradition, the brooms are typically brought out at the end of a sweep, but the Oracle Park grounds crew may be on to something after taking them out before game one of the series even ends.
