Accused Long Island Gilgo Beach serial killer Rex Heuermann has been charged with a seventh murder in a new indictment unsealed Tuesday.
Heuermann is now accused of killing Valerie Mack between September 1 and November 19, 2000, according to the superseding indictment issued by the Suffolk County Criminal Court. Mack’s remains were discovered in 2011 in the Gilgo Beach area.
Mack is the seventh woman Heuermann has been charged with murdering since his arrest in July.
Mack was initially known as Jane Doe #6. Her torso was discovered in Manorville in 2000. Her head, hands and right foot were found near Gilgo Beach in 2011.
In 2010 and 2011, the bodies of eleven people were found on and near Gilgo Beach.
Police said it was a Long Island pimp — and pizza crust DNA — who led investigators to Heuermann, a husband and father who had lived quietly in the Nassau County town of Massapequa Park and commuted to Manhattan, where he worked as an architect.
The pimp described the suspect’s vehicle to authorities and gave them details about a green Chevrolet Avalanche during a meeting with investigators in the spring of 2022.
Police also extracted DNA from a pizza crust found in a Manhattan trash can near Heuermann’s office and linked it to a hair found on Waterman’s body.
Heuermann has been in custody since his arrest last July.
