Police in Gilroy have arrested a Christopher High student after a physical altercation between two teenage boys in the school’s locker room ended in a stabbing, according to authorities.
According to a news release from the Gilroy Police Department, Gilroy officers responded to Christopher High School at 850 Day Road just before noon Thursday after receiving a report of a stabbing. An initial investigation by officers revealed that two male students were involved in a fight in the school locker room when one of the students pulled out a knife and stabbed the other student.
Police said Christopher High staff and the School Resource Officer quickly intervened to stop the altercation. According to authorities, the suspect was taken into custody and held until additional officers arrived at the school. First responders from the Gilroy Fire Department provided immediate treatment to the victim, who was then transported to a local hospital.
No information was provided about the victim’s condition.
Police said a ‘code blue’ lockdown had been put in place at the school to ensure the safety of students and to allow officers and detectives to investigate the incident. Police said there was no ongoing threat to the school’s students or staff and the lockdown was lifted around 1 p.m.
The minor suspect was arrested on suspicion of this incident. He was later transferred to the Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall.
