Girl Fights Back After Man Allegedly Punches and Chokes Her on Local Bike Path

A man is in jail for allegedly assaulting a girl on a bike path.

As reported on News Center 7 at 11 am: Neighbors were concerned about trespassing on the path after the attack.

Debbie Mines does not use the bike path, but lives in the area.

She said people should be able to walk on the path without feeling unsafe.

“You should be able to go anywhere you want and not have to worry about it. But these days you have to worry about it. Everywhere you go. You need someone,” Mines said.

On May 30, a girl under the age of 13 was assaulted by Adam Humphreys, court documents show.

Humphreys, 18, is alleged to have scratched, strangled and attempted to rape the young girl.

The girl was able to fight back and get away to call the police.

Court documents show Humphreys is a convicted sex offender.

News Center 7 could not find a case in the online records, but that could be because he was convicted before he turned 18.

“I’m sure she’s been traumatized. I’m glad she got away,” Mines said.

She said she was worried about the girl and that’s why her family is making sure no one is left alone.

“My granddaughter goes to Upward Bound, and her mother told her ‘buddy system’ everywhere you go,” Mines said.

Humphreys is currently in custody at the Clark County Jail.
