Girl reportedly taken from Columbus found safe in Springfield

Nov. 8 – An Amber Alert has been canceled for a girl who was reportedly taken from Columbus on Friday after being found safe in Springfield.

Makenzie Hall, 13, was last seen on South Huron Avenue, according to the alert. Our news partner WBNS in Columbus said she was spotted on that street near Westgate Park in the Hilltop neighborhood at 10:08 a.m.

WBNS reported that Makenzie’s family said she was found safe at her grandmother’s home in Springfield, and the alarm was canceled around 6:25 p.m.

Springfield police said they were notified at approximately 10:20 a.m. to check for Mackenzie and their officers and detectives worked with Columbus police to find her. Police confirmed she was found safe in the city at around 6.10pm and said her parents were now with her.

Police identified the suspect as Shane Steven Smith, 48. Springfield police said police are looking for him and he has a local address.

The alert involved a white 2004 Ford Ranger, pictured below. The pickup has a Steelers sticker on the lower left rear window and a skull and crossbones sticker in the center.
