Grand Forks man sentenced to 7.5 years in prison for sexually abusing minor in Polk County

August 20 – POLK COUNTY, Minn. – A Grand Forks man was sentenced Tuesday, August 20, to 90 months in prison for multiple incidents of second-degree criminal sexual contact in Polk County.

Wilfredo Alejandro Lopez, 23, pleaded guilty to the crime on July 19. He continued to plead not guilty to six counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, but those were withdrawn during sentencing.

Court documents show that from February 2021 to November 2021, when Lopez was 20 years old,

He had sexual contact with a girl who was under 16 years old.

Lopez’s 90-month sentence is the mandatory minimum for second-degree criminal sexual contact. The maximum is 25 years.

He will serve his time at the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud. He has 610 days left, which leaves him just under 70 months to serve.

After Lopez serves his prison sentence, he will be released on parole for 10 years.
