Gretchen Whitmer looked at a possible replacement for Biden if he steps down

As a sequel to Joe BidenAfter Thursday’s lackluster performance in the presidential debate against Donald Trump, there have been signals from both Republicans and Democrats that it may be time for him to withdraw from the race for re-election.

Although some experts are calling removing Biden from the ballot box in 2024 a “risky venture,” names are already being circulated of people who would be best suited to take his place.

While Vice President Kamala Harris is the obvious first choice, there is another top female candidate in the mix: Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, who her former adviser says offers much of what Biden lacks.

According to The Telegraph, Mark Burton, who was Whitmer’s top adviser for more than a decade, says that “she has always viewed her rise in politics as an inherent comparison with the other candidate.” He added that she could beat Trump in a campaign and “govern better than Donald Trump could govern for the next four years.”

Burton doesn’t go further than confirming whether Whitmer would be a more effective candidate than Biden, but says she “certainly has strengths that he doesn’t have.” Among the strengths she mentions are her “disarming” sense of humor and her youthfulness, compared to the other candidates.

“Unfortunately, the electorate makes up its mind very, very early on certain issues and on age issues with the president. You know, I think most people have made up their minds on that,” he said.
