DNC Protesters Continue Negotiations with City

CHICAGO (CBS) — A large protest group says it is making progress in its fight to stay within sight and earshot of this year’s Democratic National Convention.

So far, the city has publicly offered the Coalition to March on the DNC the opportunity to protest on Columbus Drive, four miles east of the United Center.

“It is a violation of our First Amendment rights and it is unacceptable,” said Hatem Abudayyeh of the American Palestinian Community Network.

The coalition includes the same groups seen in other local protests against the war between Israel and Hamas, and hopes to reach a resolution with the city next week.

“I want to acknowledge that there has been movement from the city. We hope that continues,” said Chris Williams, attorney for the Coalition to March on the DNC.
