Guided walks possible on New Year’s Day

Rangers and volunteers will lead free hikes in 30 different Oregon parks on New Year’s Day as part of the First Day Hikes program.

America’s State Parks sponsors the program nationwide, and the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department has participated for more than a decade. A list of participating parks and specific walks can be found online on the department’s website. Some hikes, including Champoeg, Detroit Lake, Emigrant Springs and Smith Rock, require registration.

Day use parking fees are waived.
