Guterres urged all sides to reach a ceasefire agreement

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has urged all parties involved in the war in Gaza to reach a ceasefire agreement.

“The horrors must stop, it is high time for a ceasefire and the unconditional release of hostages,” he said at a humanitarian aid conference for the Gaza Strip held at the Dead Sea in Jordan.

“I urge all parties to seize this opportunity and reach an agreement,” Guterres added.

“The speed and scale of the carnage and killing in Gaza surpasses anything in my years as Secretary General,” he said. “Nowhere is safe, the conditions are appalling.”

The conference is organized by Jordan, Egypt and the UN. The aim is to find ways for the international community to respond more effectively to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
