McGrier worked through Habitat’s first-time homebuyer program after the organization acquired the home through the Lancaster Redevelopment Authority.

After thousands of hours of renovation, she was able to purchase her home from Habitat with an interest-free mortgage.

“That’s the catalyst for the family,” said Andrew Szalay, president and CEO of Lancaster-Lebanon Habitat for Humanity. “To be able to own the house, to have a stable place they can call home, to be their epicenter to go to work, recover and be stronger for the next day, to give their students a stable place from which they do not switch. from one place to another for longer periods of time, and with their community anchor points nearby.”

Habitat says this was made possible by the donors behind the five-year, $4 million Open Doors construction campaign.
