Hagerstown man arrested in connection with bomb threat at MVA

A Hagerstown man, an employee of the Maryland Vehicle Administration, was arrested Friday after threatening to bomb his workplace, police said.

The 38-year-old employee faces one count of making a threat of mass violence and one count of arson after other MVA employees told Maryland State Police that the suspect said he wanted to enter the building on Col. Henry K. Douglas Drive went bombing. According to Hagerstown police.

Police said the report was made to an officer working at the MVA around 10:30 a.m. Friday. A preliminary investigation led to a response from the Office of the State Fire Marshal Bomb Squad and a team of explosive detection dogs, according to a state police news release.

The facility was searched by K9 “Rosie.” According to the police, no explosives were found.

Deputy State Fire Marshals took over the investigation. After consulting with the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office, the suspect was taken into custody on an arrest warrant, police said.

Police said investigators filed a petition and obtained a warrant to search the suspect’s home.

According to police, officers discovered 26 guns and 67 containers of ammunition there. Police said the guns and ammunition were taken by police and the suspect was taken to an area hospital for medical evaluation.
