Halloween fun, business advice, a Vietnam film and volunteer fair at The Library

Prepare for an exciting series of events that will capture your imagination at the library! Families can enjoy some spooky fun, while aspiring entrepreneurs will find inspiration and guidance to kick-start their dreams. Plus, dive into fascinating stories and connect with local organizations that need your help: there’s something for everyone!

Trick-or-treating stories and fun

Families with children from infants to age 6 are invited to join us for some spooktacular Halloween fun.

  • Monster Mash Storytime: Join us for a terrifyingly fun time with some not-so-scary stories, crafts and activities at 10am on Tuesday, October 29 at the Strafford Branch Library.

  • Halloween Storytime: Dress up and enjoy some not-so-scary stories, songs and a trick-or-treating parade around the library at 9:30 am and 10:30 am on Thursday, October 31 in the Library Center auditorium.

  • Not So Scary Story Time: Enjoy spooky stories, songs and more during our Halloween-themed story time that won’t keep you awake Thursday, October 31 at 10am at The Fairbanks Community Hub.

Booting up for a business reboot

Have you ever dreamed of owning and running your own business? Learn what it takes to be an entrepreneur along with highly decorated guest presenters who will discuss how to develop business concepts and planning, market research, financing and more in the Library Center auditorium on Wednesday, November 6 from 8am to 2:30pm. This workshop is open to veterans and non-service members. Lunch will be provided. Presented in partnership with Simmons Bank, US Small Business Administration, SCORE Southwest Missouri and the Veterans Business Outreach Center. ‘Voices from Vietnam’

Watch the award-winning, unrated film “Voices from Vietnam,” featuring an original story by Vietnam War veteran Larry Rottmann and directed by Mark Biggs, with dozens of first-hand photos and film footage of Vietnam from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, November 9 at the Library Center auditorium. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Rottmann and Biggs.

Community Volunteer Scholarship

Do you want to make a difference in our community? Explore volunteer opportunities at more than 50 local nonprofits while bringing along some fun stuff. This Saturday, November 16 from 10 a.m. to noon in the Library Center auditorium, learn about organizations that would be grateful to find a volunteer like you to help them achieve their goals.
