Hamas-led organization says 40 dead in Israeli attack in northern Gaza

At least 40 people have been killed in an Israeli attack in the northern Gaza Strip, the Hamas-led civil defense organization in the area said on Sunday.

A spokesman said Israeli forces attacked a former school in the city of Beit Hanoun that served as a shelter for displaced residents.

Many of the victims were reportedly burned, although the information could not be independently verified.

Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that Israeli forces surrounded the building and opened fire, killing at least 15 people.

The Israeli military said on Telegram that it targeted a gathering of fighters from the Palestinian militant group Hamas, killing dozens of would-be terrorists.

The war was caused by the massacre of 1,200 people and the kidnapping of approximately 250 hostages in Israel on October 7, 2023 by Palestinian terrorists from the coastal strip.

Since then, Israeli attacks have killed nearly 45,000 people in Gaza, according to Palestinian sources. The figures make no distinction between combatants and civilians.
