Harris will release medical records because the campaign wants to pressure Trump to do the same

Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to release her medical history and records Saturday, as her campaign now plans to pressure former President Donald Trump to release his own president.

The report will say Harris, 59, has the physical and mental toughness to serve as president, a senior Harris aide said.

It is not yet known how detailed Harris’ data will be, but her campaign sees the release as an opportunity to focus the conversation on the physical health and mental acuity of her opponent, 78-year-old Trump. Harris’ advisers claim they can compare her age to Trump’s — and challenge him to release more recent information.

Harris did not release her medical records during the 2020 campaign. In November 2023, Trump posted a letter from his doctor of osteopathic medicine, Bruce Aronwald, stating that he had been examined in September 2023 and that his “general health was excellent.” No details about his vitals or medications were shared.

In one interview with CBS News in AugustTrump said he would “love” to release his medical records and that he had recently undergone a medical exam and received a “perfect score.”

If Trump is elected in November, he would be the oldest president in American history by the end of his term.

The Harris campaign’s attempt to highlight Trump’s age mirrors the Republican campaign’s approach to President Biden when he was a candidate. When Biden was still running, Trump’s campaign often posted clips of him stumbling up the stairs of Air Force One, or of his verbal gaffes.

Biden left the 2024 race in July, after Democratic infighting and skepticism, he was able to serve a full second term, spurred by a debate appearance in June where he appeared to show signs of his age, 81, by speaking in a hoarse voice and stumbling through answers.

On social media, Harris’ campaign has focused on references to Trump’s age, citing moments when Trump slurs or rambles his words.
