Have you seen this man? Police are looking for a person of interest in connection with the June 21 Topeka homicide

Topeka police are asking for tips to help them locate Nassir Gill, 19, of Topeka, who they said is a “person of interest” in relation to their investigation into the June 21 shooting death of Brian M. Wright Jr.

Police released a photo of Gill, who they say is 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds.

Gill is seen in the photo with blue and green hair, but those colors may no longer be present, said Rosie Nichols, a public safety communications specialist with the city of Topeka.

When and where did Brian M. Wright Jr. murdered?

Wright, 23, was one of two people Topeka police found with gunshot wounds after they were called to the 3100 block of SW Westover Road just after 2:15 a.m. June 21, police Capt. Jerry Monasmith said. Westover runs northwest from SW 17th and Oakley Avenue.

Wright was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Topeka, where he died, Monasmith said.

The female gunshot victim survives. Her name and age have not been released.

Have any arrests been made in connection with Wright’s death?

Topeka police announced Friday morning that they had arrested Dasanee D. Curry Jr., 18, of Topeka in connection with Wright’s death.

Currsy was booked into the Shawnee County Jail at 2:05 a.m. Friday, where records showed he was being held Monday on a $1 million bond in connection with crimes including first-degree intentional homicide.

Curry was also arrested on charges of attempted first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, criminal damage to property and criminal discharge of a weapon into an occupied dwelling, Topeka police Lt. Ed Stanley said. No formal charges were filed against him.
