GREEN BAY – The future of the Joannes Aquatic Center will be determined in large part by a community discussion that the Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department will host to gather feedback directly from residents, a news release said Monday.
The discussion will come nearly a month after the department presented a $9.45 million dream plan for the facility to the Parks Commission.
Here’s what you need to know.
What will be discussed?
As at last month’s Park Commission meeting, department staff will make a presentation on the current condition of the aquatic center and proposed renovations and repairs, which could total $9.45 million.
The design concept that the department developed together with a landscaping company is nothing more than a proposal, department director Dan Ditscheit made clear during last month’s Park Commission meeting. Whether the future of the center will be a modest renovation or a full renovation will depend on the feedback the department can gather.
Why is the future of the Joannes Aquatic Center up for public discussion?
The center has served the community since the 1990s, and Ditscheit says its age is reflected in the sand that collects at the bottom of the pool, the weathered concrete gutters and the leaking surge tank.
Where will the session be held?
East High School at 1415 E. Walnut St.
When will the session take place?
The presentation will begin on January 13 at 6:00 PM by Parks, Recreation and Forestry Department staff.
Are questions asked?
Yes, there will also be the option to ask questions, as well as general feedback, according to Monday’s announcement.
