Heat warning in effect on Friday, hot and humid weekend in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — If you thought the Fourth of July was hot and humid, prepare for some more baking and sweating on Friday.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat warning for all counties along the I-95 corridor both Friday and Saturday, as temperatures are expected to soar into the 90s and 95s, with wind chills of over 100 degrees. The hottest part of the day will be between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m., which is also when pop-up storms are most likely to occur.

The region is currently in the “general thunderstorm” category (non-severe), but we will be watching for any stronger storms that develop. Take all necessary heat-related precautions and stay in the air conditioning as much as possible.

On Sunday the humidity will decrease slightly, but it will still be warm with highs around 32 degrees.

In the tropics, Hurricane Beryl remains a dangerous hurricane, moving toward the Yucatan Peninsula Friday morning and eventually toward southern Texas on Monday. Although it will be much weaker, it could bring flooding and rainfall to an area recently hit by Alberto.
