After the warmest week in a few years, the pattern is now becoming restless and stormy.

Where will the storms hit?

The Storms Prediction Center has placed parts of New England at a low to marginal risk for severe thunderstorms every day through the weekend. At this time, there is no specific time frame that they highlight as having an increased risk or greater likelihood of a severe weather outbreak.

Any storms that develop over the next few days could certainly bring very heavy downpours, which could lead to localized flooding. There is also a chance of small hail and/or damaging wind gusts.

When will the storms come?

The timing of the highest risk will vary a little each day. Friday’s storms are most likely between 1:00 PM and 8:00 PM and could form and drift anywhere in southern New England.

On Saturday the period with the greatest storm risk is slightly earlier, between 12 noon and 6 p.m.

On Sunday, storms will occur early in the day across central and northern New England, but in southern New England the greatest risk will come in the late afternoon and evening.

What you will certainly notice is that although the temperature this weekend will be slightly cooler than in recent days, the humidity will remain very high.

What if I go to the lakes and mountains or the Cape?

If you’re thinking of heading north or south to avoid the storms, there’s really no corner of New England that is completely storm-free.

The northern mountains have a fairly high risk of storms every day. The risk is somewhat lower on the Cape and Islands, but we still cannot rule out a few scattered storms each day.
