Here’s how to get fresh firewood from an Indiana state park this winter

If you’re looking for firewood this winter, you have the chance to cut your own wood – and help a state park in the Evansville area in the process.

Between now and Feb. 28, citizens can go to Lincoln State Park in Spencer County and cut down certain fallen trees in the area, the Indiana Department of National Resources said in a news release.

Trees eligible for felling have fallen naturally or have been felled by park staff. They are all located along park roads or near camping and picnic areas.

A pick-up load costs $10. Each user must also apply for a firewood permit at the park office Monday through Friday between 8:45 a.m. and 3 p.m.

“All proceeds will be used for resource management and restoration of the parks, including the replacement of trees in campgrounds and other public areas,” the news release said.

Lincoln State Park is located at 15476 County Road 300 East in Lincoln City.
