Horford makes history with seven threes in Game 3 win vs. Pacers

Horford makes history with seven 3s in Game 3 win vs. Pacers originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

While Jayson Tatum led the way in scoring and Jrue Holiday made the game-winning play with a last-second steal, there’s no doubt the Boston Celtics would have struggled to complete their comeback against the Indiana Pacers in Game 3 without 37 points . year veteran Al Horford.

Horford converted seven of his 12 three-point attempts in his 23-point performance. While doing this, he added his name to the history books for several reasons.

Not only were Horford’s seven threes finished in fourth place in an Eastern Conference Finals gamebut he also became the fourth center to ever do this in a play-off game and the oldest player to complete the feat.

One of Horford’s 3s came on a clutch snap with just over a minute left. Trailing by five points, Tatum drove to the basket and beautifully completed a behind-the-back pass to Horford in the corner for a wide-open three-pointer to cut the lead to two.

“It was pretty special,” Horford said of Tatum’s pass. “He drove to the basket, he felt like he had a lane, and then – I don’t know how he got there, he had to improvise – he kept making the right play over and over again. That was an incredible play that he made , and at that point for me it was just ‘take your time and knock it down.’ “

The Celtics now hold a commanding 3-0 series lead over the Pacers and will look to complete the sweep Monday night in Indiana to earn another trip to the finals. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:00 PM ET, and NBC Sports Boston’s coverage begins at 7:00 PM ET Celtics Postgame Live.
