When a gunman shot and killed 49 people at a Florida nightclub, a group of newly arrived interns went to work. They had not even had any computer training, but set out to identify the victims and tell their stories.
And when an apartment building collapsed in Surfside in the middle of the night, interns went to the scene every day to get answers.
But interns don’t need earth-shattering events to play a big role at the Miami Herald. There’s plenty of news to cover about their assignments for our research, visual, business, government, sports, public service, education and health teams.
Behind those swaying palms, mamey-colored sunsets and salty sea air, Miami is one of the best news cities in the world.
And then there’s the place. Our rising skyline glitters under the sun. Our diverse neighborhoods vibrate with music and burst with art. Our food takes you across America (even a local KFC has been selling homemade pie, and if you’ve never tried a croqueta, well…).
Come to the Miami Herald to intern and you will be in paradise with one of the best jobs in journalism. You hold politicians accountable, answer questions for your local readers, make a video of a place no one else can go. You deliver the news and explain the problems. You can even participate in Pulitzer Prize-winning reporting.
Don’t believe us? Just ask our former interns who are now staff.
Would you like to join us? It starts with a request. Here you will find information for the Miami Herald.
