How likely is the Brady-Belichick reunion in Vegas? Giardi and Curran originally weigh in on NBC Sports Boston
“I didn’t come here to leave.”
That was Bill Belichick’s response when asked if he would consider leaving his new job at the University of North Carolina for a head coaching position in the NFL. Less than a month after making that statement at his introductory press conference, his word is being tested.
NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero reported Wednesday that legendary New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, now the minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, contacted his former head coach about the vacant Raiders position. Several NFL teams have asked whether Belichick would reconsider his move to college football, Pelissero added.
Would Belichick entertain the idea of reuniting with Brady in Vegas? On Wednesday Early editionMike Giardi of Boston Sports Journal was asked where he thinks Belichick will be coaching in 2025.
“North Carolina,” Giardi answered without hesitation. “Look, he made a commitment to them. He brought his son there from the University of Washington. I wouldn’t be surprised if his other son, Brian, goes there at some point. I think there’s another Patriot. adjacent coaches heading that way.
“I think he’s a little bit intrigued by the challenge, and I think in his mind, at least for this season, he’s turned the page and thought about having success at the college level and not doing that in the pros. Who knows what happens next.” years, but it just feels like he’s gone on the road with them now, and to do what that would be like is pretty crazy.

As compelling a storyline as that would be, Curran doesn’t see how the rebuilding Raiders would benefit from Belichick and his disciples joining them.
“Beyond the simple fact that the Patriots always believed that bad teams stay bad because they make bad decisions, that would be exactly what the Raiders did,” Curran said. “What are they going to do? They’re going to bring up Bill – and I have no problem with Belichick’s assistant coaches, but who’s going to be your General Manager? Mike Lombardi? He really hasn’t been a General Manager in the league… I just don’t know how that will immediately translate into a Las Vegas Raiders revival going into the rest of this decade.
“Bill’s record speaks for itself over the last four years he’s been here in New England, as does Tom and Bill’s relationship. They can enjoy it as much as they want. And Tom Brady is a love man, he’s a peace-loving man, and he achieved that with Bill because Bill, who no longer has an ax to grind with Tom, has seen that it is best for the brand if those boys are Siamese twins. ‘It was never a problem.’ But there was a problem, so it would be very fascinating if they went there.”
Belichick has a $10 million buyout if he leaves before June 1, Pelissero reported. However, that seems extremely unlikely, since Dianna Russini from Athletic reports this Belichick has “no plans to return to the NFL” and his “sole focus” is on “coaching and recruiting for North Carolina.”
