How many votes have been cast in El Paso County so far?

Voters are wasting little time heading to the polls as the El Paso election gets underway.

There is a lot at stake in the upcoming general election. Nationally, voters will choose Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris or former Republican President Donald Trump to lead the nation for the next four years. Texans will also decide whether to give incumbent Republican Sen. Ted Cruz another term in the U.S. Senate or hand the keys to U.S. Rep. Colin Allred, D-Dallas.

At the local level, voters will choose a new mayor and weigh in on six El Paso City Council races, at least four of which will result in new representatives on the eight-member City Council. Local voters will also elect a sheriff, a district attorney and at least one new representative to the El Paso County Commissioners Court.

Early voting totals in the 2020 election

The last presidential election, in which President Joe Biden topped Trump in his re-election bid, took place in 2020.

Locally, 42,107 ballots, about 10% of registered voters at the time, were cast during the early voting period of that year’s election. With more than 23,000 votes cast on the first day of early voting and more than a week left to vote before the Nov. 5 general election, it’s almost certain that El Paso voters will top those numbers this year.
