How Purdy Can Match HOF QB Warner in NFL Record Books Against Rams

How Purdy Can Match HOF QB Warner In NFL Record Books vs. Rams originally appeared on NBC Sports Bay Area

Brock Purdy has the chance to add his name to the NFL record books as a Hall of Famer when the 49ers take on the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday at SoFi Stadium.

If Purdy posts a passer rating of 100 or better against Los Angeles, he will tie Kurt Warner for the second-most such games (16) by a player in their first 25 regular-season starts in NFL history. The only player with more is Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, with 18.

Sunday’s game against the Rams will be Purdy’s 24th regular-season start, giving the young quarterback a chance to not only tie Warner’s record this weekend but also move into second place on the list with another such game against the New England Patriots in Week 4.

It won’t be an easy task for Purdy, as the 24-year-old will be without key players from the 49ers’ offense on Sunday when San Francisco takes the field against Los Angeles.

Star running back Christian McCaffrey remains sidelined with Achilles tendonitis, wide receiver Deebo Samuel is dealing with a calf injury and tight end George Kittle has been officially ruled out of Sunday’s game after sustaining a hamstring injury in practice on Wednesday.

Purdy made just one career start against the Rams, completing 17 of 25 attempts for 206 yards and a rushing touchdown in the 49ers’ 30-23 win at SoFi Stadium last season.

Los Angeles was able to hold Purdy to a 93.1 passer rating the last time they faced San Francisco. It should be noted, however, that if Purdy had scored a touchdown through the air instead of on the ground in that game, he would have finished with a 106.4 passer rating.

With the 49ers eager to bounce back from a tough Week 2 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, Purdy and several other key San Francisco players can deliver an important message to the rest of the NFL on Sunday.
