It is important not to dispose of fireworks down the drain, as this improper disposal can allow chemicals to pollute waterways. This pollution can harm wildlife and the city’s drinking water, the post said.

The municipality offers the following tips for safely disposing of your used fireworks:

  • Do not throw fireworks or fireworks parts in your recycling bin.

  • Place used fireworks in a bucket of water overnight. Remove from water and place in a garbage bag in your trash can.

  • Pour the water on grass or an area where it cannot flow into a rainwater tank. Do not pour it on the sidewalk, street or into a rainwater tank.
