How and When to Watch the 2024 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest

This year’s Hot Dog Eating Contest will take place on Thursday, July 4, 2024 at 10:45 a.m. ET (7:45 a.m. PT) for the women’s competition and 12 p.m. ET (9 p.m. PT) for the men’s competition. The men’s competition will replay at 5 p.m. ET and 9 p.m. ET.

Why isn’t Joey Chestnut entering the 2024 Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest?

The name of 16-time Mustard Belt winner Joey Chestnut is nearly synonymous with the famed eating contest, but this year Chestnut is eating at home. In a case of weiner takes all, Chestnut has been sidelined from this year’s contest after signing a partnership with Impossible Foods, a rival to Nathan’s that makes plant-based hot dogs.

Chestnut will take on rival and former champion Takeru Kobayashi in another hot dog eating contest airing live on Netflix on Labor Day.

Today’s hot dog eating contest will last about ten minutes.


How many hot dogs does the winner usually eat?

The 2023 men’s champion, Joey Chestnut, ate (gulp) a whopping 62 hot dogs in his bid to win the Mustard Belt last year. The women’s champion, Miki Sudo, ate 39.5 hot dogs to win last year, including buns.

Sudo, who is competing to defend her title this year, holds the women’s world record at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, having consumed 48.5 hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes in 2020.
