NEW YORK — Investigators say what started as a reported burglary in Brooklyn on Saturday morning culminated in the discovery of a massive cache of illegal drugs.

In a residential area of ​​Fort Greene, just off the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, New York City Sheriff’s Office officers seized illegal marijuana products that they said were headed to bodegas and illegal cannabis stores. that are popping up all over the five boroughs.

CBS New York’s Derick Waller has learned that police were called around 5:30 a.m. to a report of a burglary at 63 Adelphi St., but when they arrived they discovered a warehouse of illegal THC products.

What the police found

Waller was allowed in to take a video of all the different products being stocked. Researchers say they have no idea where it came from.

There were some items visible that were brightly colored with funny names, almost as if they were marketed to children. And unlike the products of recognized, legal pharmaciesnothing found in the warehouse is regulated, investigators said.

“There are THC vapes. There are THC gummies, THC flowers, pre-rolls. There are several million dollars worth of product packaged for distribution in New York City,” said Maureen Kokeas with the Sheriff’s Office.

CBS New York is still working on more information about who exactly was arrested and who is behind the operation.

Sheriff’s Office deputies said recent legislation passed at the state level has made it easier to close down places like this.
