Hurricane Milton shuts down the jet fuel pipeline for Orlando International Airport

Orlando International Airport’s only pipeline supplying jet fuel is currently out of service due to Hurricane Milton.

The 85-mile pipeline that runs from the Port of Tampa to Orlando was not in use as of 6 p.m. Friday, said Carolina Olivares, spokesperson for Kinder Morgan, the company that owns the pipeline. Work is expected to resume at the end of the weekend.

According to the company’s website, the pipeline is the only one that supplies jet fuel to the airport.

There are two pipelines under Kinder Morgan’s Central Florida Pipeline system. The pipeline connecting to the airport is not working. The other pipeline not connected to the airport was also knocked out, but was put back into service on Friday evening.

Olivares said the company would work with its customers and affected communities on the recovery process.

The pipeline was shut down last month after saltwater entered it due to flooding from Hurricane Helene. It was unusable for at least two days. The problem did not affect travel at the airport, where fuel was delivered.

At the time, Angela Starke, the airport’s Senior Vice President of Public Affairs & Community Relations, said MCO had enough fuel in reserve to cover all operations.
