Hurricanes re-sign Martin Necas on two-year deal

The Carolina Hurricanes have announced that they have extended forward Martin Necas to a two-year contract worth $6.5 million AAV.

The new contract takes Necas to UFA status and is a significant improvement on his previous contract.

The 25-year-old Czech striker had requested arbitration, but the two sides reached an agreement before it was necessary.

“Martin is a tremendously skilled player who is a scoring threat when the puck is on his stick,” said Carolina general manager Eric Tulsky. “He will play a key role in the continued success of our franchise, and we are pleased to have him on a multi-year contract.”

At the beginning of the offseason, all signs seemed to point to Necas being traded. The first-round draft pick in 2017 was reportedly unhappy with his role and positioning with the team. However, new general manager Tulsky made it a priority to bring Necas back to Raleigh.

Necas is an attacking star player who still has a lot to discover in his game.

He is one of the best skaters in the NHL and has shown in his last two seasons that he is good at finding the net.

Last season he had 24 goals and 53 points, but the year before that he had 28 and 71 points.

The Canes are now nearly done with their off-season and have just one major contract left to sort out: that of Seth Jarvis.
