Euisun Chung, Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group (HMG), met with Indian Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi, to discuss collaboration and development of the Indian mobility industry.
Director Chung was in India to assess HMG’s medium to long-term strategy and attended Hyundai Motor India Limited’s (HMIL) stock exchange listing on October 22, 2024.
The meeting was held at the Prime Minister’s Office in Delhi and was also attended by Mr. Tarun Garg, COO – HMIL. They discussed the development of the Indian mobility industry and possible collaboration between India and HMG.
Executive Chairman Chung invited the Prime Minister to inaugurate HMIL’s plant in Pune, Maharashtra. HMG said the investment in this plant will be a game changer for HMIL, supported by the Government of India and the Government of Maharashtra.
HMIL will also continue to play a key role in the ‘Make in India’ initiative, and as India moves towards its ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ vision – a strategy for the country’s development by the year 2047, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of India’s Independence – Hyundai said it will be ‘a trusted partner on this meaningful journey’.
During the meeting, Executive Chairman Chung also expressed his respect for India’s heritage and culture. He said, “India’s rich history and culture continue to inspire people around the world. As India and Korea deepen economic cooperation, we can learn much from each other’s cultures and strengthen the foundations of our cooperation.”
He also thanked the Indian government for its continued support to Hyundai Motor Group, discussed the importance of Hyundai Motor India’s IPO and outlined plans to build on HMGthe Group’s success to date by building Hyundai Motor into ‘India’s most trusted mobility company’.
“Hyundai Motor has been successfully operating in India for over 26 years and has become the second largest car manufacturer thanks to the interest of the Indian government and the support of the Indian people,” said Executive Chairman Chung. “This is the right time to further establish Hyundai as a ‘home brand’ and the ‘most trusted brand’ in India.”
Executive Chairman Chung also expressed support for the adoption and growth of electric vehicles in India. He said, “We will continue our collaboration with the Indian government to build an EV ecosystem through the introduction of EV models, construction of EV charging networks and localization of components.”
