Update: 8:30 am
Florida Highway Patrol reports all lanes of Interstate 95 are now open.
However, troopers said the crash has had a significant impact on traffic and there are heavy backups between Viera Boulevard and US-192.
Motorists should anticipate slow or stopped traffic in the area in the coming hours, FHP said.
Update 7am:
FHP said the crash occurred in the northbound lanes of I-95, just south of Pineda Causeway.
Six vehicles were involved.
One driver was ejected and died at the crash site, troopers said.
Both the northbound and southbound lanes remain closed as investigators say vehicles have crashed on both sides of the highway.

Troopers will try to clear the northbound lanes first.
FHP asks motorists to be patient and avoid the area if possible.
The agency is expecting heavy traffic since school resumed in Brevard County this morning.

Troopers are at the scene of a fatal traffic accident along Interstate 95 in southern Brevard County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred near the Pineda Causeway in Melbourne and all northbound and southbound lanes are closed.
Troopers responded to the crash near mile marker 188 shortly before 5 a.m
Channel 9 host Alexa Lorenzo said a section of the highway is closed in both directions, from Eau Gallie Boulevard to Pineda Causeway.

Motorists in the area can use Wickham Road as an alternative.
