Kelly Ripa truly understands how difficult it is to spend hours on your hair and not get the results you’re looking for.
The host of Live with Kelly and Mark candidly shared on the June 5 episode that she did just that recently when she did a coloring session the day before to cover up her gray hair and the whole thing backfired.
“It’s still gray,” she complained to her husband and cohost, Mark Consuelos.
“It’s not gray,” he protested.

“I don’t mind telling you, I spent about 11 hours in the hair color chair yesterday,” she told the audience before revealing that her hair didn’t look the way she wanted. Consuelos also told the audience that when Ripa got home, he was still doing her hair — and that’s where he left her when he left that day.
Despite spending almost half the day cleaning up the grays, Ripa was disappointed to find that they were still firmly in place (despite what her husband said).
“We sprayed my roots this morning,” she explained why you couldn’t really see the gray tones. “We sprayed the roots with the blackout spray. So I don’t know what to do at this point. Am I just going full Mrs. Claus, or what am I doing?”
“Try the gray,” he encouraged.

“I don’t think I’m here yet,” she hedged. “I told you my hair isn’t that nice gray. It’s almost translucent. It’s like my hair is translucent. What’s that called? Those cellophane noodles. This is what my hair looks like. What should I do?” do with that?”
Consuelos rudely told her to color it gray.

A few weeks ago on the show, Ripa admitted that her hair “wants” to be gray and that she’s getting tired of the dyeing process.
“It takes hours and hours,” Ripa said. “And I swear I still see gray hair this morning. My hair wants to be gray. It just wants to be gray.”
But when Consuelos told her that maybe she should embrace the grays, she paused. He finally admitted that she wasn’t ready, and she didn’t disagree.
